Dear Sir,
The growing spread of drugs in Muladi Upazila of Barishal has become a serious threat to its younger generation. Even remote char areas along the Ariyal Kha and Jayanti rivers are witnessing rising drug addiction among adolescents and youths.
Geographical isolation, limited law enforcement surveillance, unemployment, poor educational opportunities and lack of family awareness have made young people vulnerable to drug trafficking and addiction. Drug syndicates exploit these conditions, often using teenagers to transport yaba, ganja and phensedyl for small amounts of money. Consequently, families are suffering, while theft and other crimes are threatening social security.
To protect Muladi’s youth, authorities must strengthen police and Coast Guard patrols along river routes and bring drug traffickers to justice. At the same time, efforts must be made to reduce school dropout rates, create employment opportunities, provide technical training and promote sports and cultural activities. Family awareness and community-based campaigns are equally essential to build a drug-free Muladi.
