Today is Halloween! Halloween is celebrated worldwide every year on October 31st. Its origins trace back about two thousand years to the ancient Celtic festival of ‘Samhain.’ The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead would blur, allowing restless spirits to return to Earth. To protect themselves from malevolent spirits, they would light fires and wear elaborate costumes. The name ‘Halloween’ later evolved from the Christian observance of ‘All Hallows’ Eve.’

Today, Halloween is primarily a celebration of joy, entertainment, and creativity. On this day, people dress up as various characters-- such as ghosts, witches, and vampires-- carve spooky faces into pumpkins, decorate their surroundings, and participate in parties and cultural events. The tradition of children going from house to house to collect sweets is known as ‘trick-or-treating.’
