Students who failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will get an opportunity to retake the failed subjects within the next one to two months, said Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan on Saturday.
This year, the combined pass rate across the country's 11 education boards stood at 52.12 per cent, with nearly half of all candidates failing to pass.
A total of 1,240,798 students appeared in the examinations, of whom 646,685 passed while 594,113 failed.
The education minister said students would be allowed to sit for examinations only in the subjects they failed, rather than retaking all subjects.
He added that the government would arrange the repeat examinations within one to two months, giving unsuccessful candidates an opportunity to improve their results without having to wait for the next regular examination cycle.
The announcement comes amid a significant number of failures in this year's HSC and equivalent examinations, with nearly six lakh students unable to secure a passing grade.
