The results of the 2026 HSC and Alim examinations in Kaliganj Upazila, Gazipur, reveal shortcomings in the quality of education and exam preparation. Out of 1,123 students who took the examinations in the Upazila, 619 passed; while 504 failed, resulting in a combined pass rate of 55.12%. Only 11 students achieved a GPA-5.

According to the published results, students from the Madrasa stream performed better than those from the college stream. The pass rate for the HSC examination across seven colleges was 54.01%, whereas the pass rate for the Alim examination across seven Madrasas was 70.12%.

Among the seven colleges, St. Mary’s School and College achieved the best results; 202 out of 226 candidates passed, representing a pass rate of 89.38%, with seven students securing a GPA-5.

In contrast, the results at Bir Muktijoddha Ruhul Amin Dhali School and College were poor; only five out of 25 candidates passed, with a pass rate of 20%, the lowest among all colleges in the Upazila.

Meanwhile, Kaliganj Government Sramik College, which had the highest number of candidates, also underperformed relative to expectations. Out of 563 candidates, 252 passed and 311 failed, resulting in a pass rate of 44.76%. No student from this institution achieved a GPA-5.

Among the other colleges, the pass rates were 63.83% at Azmatpur School and College, 51.79% at Kaliganj Central College, 49.12% at Kaliganj Mohila Degree College, and 26.39% at Jamalpur College. Although Jamalpur College had a low overall pass rate, two of its students managed to secure a GPA-5.

On the other hand, among the seven Madrasas, Borogaon Baitul Alim Madrasa achieved a 100% pass rate, with all five of its candidates successfully passing the Alim examination. In this examination, 22 out of 30 students from M U Kamil Madrasa, 8 out of 10 from Jangalia Fazil Madrasa, and 7 out of 9 from Chupair Jamiul Ulum Madrasa passed. One student from Chupair Jamiul Ulum Madrasa achieved a GPA of 5.

Additionally, the pass rate at Chhatiani Alim Madrasa is 66.66%, while at Baghun Madinatul Ulum Alim Madrasa, it is 57.14%. The lowest pass rate was recorded at Jamalpur Darul Ulum Alim Madrasa, where only 2 out of 7 examinees passed, a pass rate of 28.57%.

According to those involved in the education sector, these results highlight the need for more effective initiatives regarding classroom instruction, student attendance, and examination preparation within these educational institutions.

Regarding this, Md. Atiqur Rahman, the Secondary Education Officer for Kaliganj Upazila, stated, "By analyzing the examination results, it is possible to identify the standing of both high-performing and underperforming institutions. For those with low pass rates, it is essential to review their educational environment and teaching practices. Future results could be improved through consistent instruction by teachers, additional classes for struggling students, and better coordination with parents. The practices of institutions that achieved strong results could also serve as a model for others to follow."

Stakeholders hope that these institutions will use these results as an opportunity to identify weaknesses and enhance the quality of education, thereby striving for better outcomes in the coming academic year.
