Southeast University hosts 12th IEEE Int’l WIE Conference on ECE 2026

Southeast University (SEU), Dhaka, held the 12th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2026 (IEEE WIECON-ECE 2026) on October 30–31, 2026.

Jointly organized by the IEEE Bangladesh Section and the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, Bangladesh Section, the two-day international conference brought together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and students from Bangladesh and abroad to exchange research findings, share technological innovations, and promote women's participation in engineering.

The inaugural ceremony was held on the first day at the SEU Multipurpose Hall. Prof. Dr. Md. Aslam Hossain, Member of UGC graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, General Chair; Prof. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, TPC Chair; Prof. Dr. M. Imamul Hassan Bhuiyan, IEEE Bangladesh Section Chair & Organizing Chair; and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, Patron of the conference and Vice Chancellor of SEU. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain, General Chair and Pro Vice-Chancellor of SEU. Authors, session chairs, faculty members, and students of SEU also attended the event.

The conference received more than 600 paper submissions from leading public and private universities in Bangladesh and international institutions. Authors represented countries including the USA, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, China, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan. To maintain a high standard of academic quality, only 25 per cent of the submitted papers were accepted following the peer-review process.

The conference featured several keynote addresses and invited talks by distinguished international experts, including Margaretha Eriksson, Senior Information Security Specialist and CISO, Sweden; Professor Lina Bertling Tjernberg, IEEE Fellow, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, and Visiting Professor at Stanford University, USA; Jyothi Ramaswamy, University of Kerala, India; Padmaja Pulivarthy, Austin, Texas, USA; Dr. Raisa Fabiha, Application Engineer (Lithography) at RAITH and Dr. Manjira Sinha, Senior Scientist at TCS Research, Kolkata, India.

The conference concluded on October 31 with a closing ceremony. Three Best Paper Awards were presented in recognition of outstanding research contributions. Additionally, Best Presenter Awards were presented to the best presenters from each technical session.
