A well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea has intensified into a depression, prompting the maritime ports to hoist warning signal No. 1.
The depression may move further west-northwest and intensify, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in a special bulletin on Saturday (October 31).
At noon, it was located 1,375 km south of Chattogram port, 1,295 km south of Cox’s Bazar, 1,395 km south of Mongla and 1,345 km south of Payra port.
Winds near the centre were reaching up to 40 kmph, gusting to 50 kmph, while the sea remained rough.
Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports have been advised to hoist distant warning signal No. 1.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain in sheltered areas and avoid venturing into the deep sea until further notice.
