Hena Begum, younger sister of late freedom fighter Manik Pashari, a prosecution witness against former Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, has left her home area following alleged threats.
Hena recently accused Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir activists of obstructing her brother's burial. She said she received threats after speaking to the media about the incident.
Sources said she left the area last Wednesday. Several other relatives had also moved away, though some family members remain in the area.
Manik's burial sparked tension in Pirojpur as some locals opposed his burial there. He was eventually buried at the family graveyard late at night under police protection.
Speaking to journalists, Hena said she feared staying alone at night and had left the area due to repeated threats. She also sought security from the administration.
Manik's brother Panna Pashari also alleged that he was threatened when he went to Pirojpur on October 24 to attend the funeral.
However, acting Ameer of Pirojpur Jamaat-e-Islami Abdur Rob denied the allegations, saying no one from his party had threatened the family.
Inspector Radheshyam Sarkar of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station said the situation remained normal after the burial and police had not been informed of Hena leaving the area.
Manik testified against Sayedee before the International Crimes Tribunal in a case involving crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. He died on October 24 at his son-in-law's house in Tungipara, Gopalganj.
