The Special Response Battalion (SRB-1) arrested notorious arms trader Md. Ikramul Islam Shiblu, alias 'Killer Shiblu' (40), seizing four foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 24 rounds of ammunition during a drive in the capital's Uttarkhan area.

According to SRB-1, Shiblu has been involved in the illicit arms trade for over 17 years. He was previously arrested in 2009 with two foreign pistols.

Acting on a tip-off regarding an illegal arms deal in the Moynartek area, an SRB-1 operational team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shahidul Islam conducted a raid early Saturday, October 31, detaining Shiblu around 3:45 AM. Based on information obtained during initial interrogation, law enforcers searched an abandoned room at his residence and recovered four US-made pistols along with ammunition.

Speaking at a press conference at the SRB-1 office in Uttara on Saturday, SRB-1 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Niamul Halim Khan stated that a review of Shiblu's criminal record revealed seven prior cases against him, including two arms, two murder, two narcotics, and one theft case. Following his 2009 arrest, he served nearly four years in prison before regaining freedom.

Lt. Col. Niamul Halim Khan added that Shiblu disclosed the names of several accomplices involved in the arms network during preliminary questioning. Drives are currently underway to identify and apprehend his associates and the ringleaders behind the illegal firearm trade.
