MIRZAGANJ, Oct 31: Majidbaria College in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali had only one student to sit for this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination, but the candidate failed, leaving the institution with no successful candidates.
Raju Ahmed, who appeared in the examination from the humanities group, failed in one subject despite the college having eight teachers.
The result has raised questions about the quality of teaching and the overall academic environment at the institution.
College Principal Faruk Iqbal said the college was established in 2002 but had yet to receive Monthly Pay Order (MPO) status.
The institution currently has eight teachers but no permanent academic building. Classes are held in tin-roofed structures.
He said the absence of MPO status, inadequate infrastructure and a lack of necessary facilities had discouraged academically strong students from enrolling at the college, leading to a steady decline in student numbers.
Consequently, only one student from the humanities group appeared in this year's HSC examination. However, Raju Ahmed failed in one subject.
More than two decades after its establishment, the college continues to struggle with inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of students.
The failure of its only HSC candidate, despite having eight teachers, has brought renewed attention to the institution's academic condition.
