Capital city Dhaka recorded 'unhealthy' air quality on Sunday (November 1) morning, ranking fourth on the list of global cities with the worst air pollution as particulate matter concentrations spiked across the megacity.
According to data from international air quality monitoring agency (IQAir), Dhaka scored an Air Quality Index (AQI) rating of 162 around 8:00AM, placing it among the top four most polluted cities worldwide.
Lahore in Pakistan topped the global list with a hazardous AQI score of 370, followed by Tashkent in Uzbekistan with 203, Karachi in Pakistan with 189, and Wuhan in China ranking fifth with 160.
Under international standards, an AQI score between 151 and 200 is categorized as 'unhealthy' for the general public, prompting health experts to advise vulnerable groups including children and the elderly to minimize outdoor exposure.
Scores between 201 and 300 are classified as 'very unhealthy', while ratings exceeding 300 pose severe health risks to the entire population.
