Ship services still suspended in Saint Martin’s

The concern authorities are working to launch ship services between November 5 and 6.

Under the government’s decision, a maximum of 3,500 tourists will be allowed to visit the island daily until March 15, 2027. Hotels, motels, resorts and restaurants have already been refurbished and prepared to welcome visitors for the new tourist season.

However, the resumption of ship services has been delayed by several regulatory hurdles. Three vessels have received clearance from the Department of Environment, but the voyage licences from the Department of Shipping, route permits from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and sailing schedules are yet to be finalised.

The Tourism Board’s software for selling tourist tickets has also not yet become operational, leaving the resumption of services on the Cox’s Bazar-Saint Martin’s route uncertain.

Once the necessary approvals and related procedures are completed, it will be possible to begin vessel operations by November 5 or 6.
