National Citizen Party (NCP) Kurigram district unit Organising Secretary Md Nurunnabi Sarker has resigned from the party, alleging deviations from its principles, ideological inconsistencies and authoritarian practices.
He announced his resignation from all organisational positions, including the party's primary membership, at a press conference held at Kurigram Press Club on Sunday morning. He also confirmed that he had sent his written resignation letter to the party's central committee.
In his written statement, Nurunnabi said he had performed his duties as the district unit's organising secretary with dedication and honesty for a long time and had worked to strengthen the party's grassroots organisation.
However, recent policy decisions, ideological deviations and authoritarian practices within the party had failed to meet the expectations of its ordinary members and supporters, he said.
Under the circumstances, he added, it was no longer possible for him to remain in the party while upholding his self-respect and ideals.
He also expressed gratitude to the party leaders, activists, supporters and residents of the district who had supported him in carrying out his responsibilities.
Contacted for comment, NCP Kurigram district unit Convener Mukul Mia said Nurunnabi had been organisationally inactive due to some family problems.
He described Nurunnabi's allegations of policy deviations, ideological inconsistencies and authoritarian practices as fabricated claims, adding that resignation was entirely a personal matter.
