Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has directed authorities to bring educational institutions with zero or alarmingly low pass rates under accountability, ordering specific measures within a week.

The minister disclosed the directive in a social media post on Sunday (November 1), calling for immediate action against institutions that failed to produce satisfactory results.

According to the post, the authorities concerned have been given one week to take specific steps against institutions where no students passed or the pass rates were exceptionally low.

The move comes amid growing concerns over the declining performance of educational institutions and the need to strengthen monitoring to improve the quality of education.

A total of 293 educational institutions recorded zero passes in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, up from 202 institutions last year. The number increased by 91 compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, 139 institutions achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.

In this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, 12,40,798 students appeared, of whom 6,46,685 passed, recording a pass rate of 52.12 per cent. A total of 40,084 students secured GPA-5.

The minister's directive was shared through his official social media post.
