The annual Kathina Civara Dana festival was celebrated with various religious rituals at Bilaichhari Bazar Sarbajanin Buddhist Vihara in Bilaichhari upazila of Rangamati, drawing hundreds of devotees from different areas.
The day-long programme began in the morning with the hoisting of the Buddhist flag. The rituals included offering Buddha statues and the eight requisites, presenting Kathina robes, observing the five precepts, lighting thousands of lamps, reciting the Mangala Sutta, offering Kalpataru and sky lanterns, and delivering religious sermons.
In the afternoon, devotees took part in a religious procession, carrying the Kathina robes and Kalpataru around the vihara premises.
Former State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipen Dewan, MP, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Sanghananda Mahathero and Aryalankar Mahathero, among others, delivered religious sermons at the festival.
According to Buddhist tradition, Visakha, a principal female lay devotee of Gautama Buddha, once prepared and donated a robe to him after spinning, dyeing, weaving and sewing the cloth within 24 hours. Commemorating this tradition, Buddhists across Bangladesh celebrate the annual Kathina Civara Dana festival with religious reverence.
