SIRAJGANJ, Nov 1: Not a single student from five madrasas in Sirajganj passed this year's Alim examinations, with all 72 candidates from the institutions failing.
The poor results have raised questions about the quality of education and teaching activities at the institutions.
The district administration has said it will issue show-cause notices to the madrasas and take necessary action.
According to the results published by the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board on Saturday, the five institutions with a 100 percent failure rate are Amchara Islamia Darul Ulum Fazil Madrasa and Telijana Alim Madrasa in Raiganj Upazila, Dobilah Islamia Fazil Madrasa in Tarash, Shyampur Kazi Ismail Hossain Alim Madrasa in Sirajganj Sadar, and Chandragati Alim Madrasa in Ullapara.
At Amchara Islamia Darul Ulum Fazil Madrasa, all 21 candidates failed, while none of the 15 candidates from Telijana Alim Madrasa passed.
All eight candidates from Shyampur Kazi Ismail Hossain Alim Madrasa also failed.
Similarly, none of the 14 candidates from Dobilah Islamia Fazil Madrasa and the 14 candidates from Chandragati Alim Madrasa passed the examinations.
The heads of the five institutions could not be reached for comment as their mobile phones were found switched off.
Contacted, Sirajganj Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Rozina Akter said the institutions would be served show-cause notices seeking explanations for the results.
"Necessary measures will be taken after reviewing the matter," she said.
