A total of 529 garment factories across Bangladesh have declared holidays amid ongoing labour unrest, disrupting production in several major industrial zones.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) disclosed the information on Sunday (November 1).
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan warned that factory owners might be forced to shut down all factories if the situation does not improve quickly.
According to the association, production has been disrupted in several areas, including Dhaka, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Savar, Ashulia and Zirabo.
Garment workers have been staging protests demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000, an end to blacklisting and the reinstatement of dismissed workers.
The ongoing unrest has raised concerns over prolonged disruption in Bangladesh's key export-oriented garment industry.
