Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has instructed newly appointed police and Ansar officers not to allow their political affiliations to influence their professional lives and warned them against abusing power while performing their duties.
“Political affiliations may exist during student life, but they must not be reflected in professional life,” he said.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a briefing and introductory meeting for newly appointed 45th BCS police and Ansar cadre officers at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Sunday.
Congratulating the new officers, Salahuddin said their main responsibility was to maintain law and order and create an environment in which all activities in the country could run smoothly. He said the administration, development activities, social security and public comfort largely depended on how officials performed their duties. They must, therefore, maintain neutrality, discipline and responsibility in their professional lives.
The minister asked the officers to follow discipline and service rules at all times and carry out lawful instructions from their senior officers.
Referring to the nature of police and Ansar services, he said their responsibilities were different from those of other cadres. The two forces often had to work in challenging and conflict-prone environments, where important decisions sometimes had to be made within moments.
Intelligence, professionalism and presence of mind were essential for handling such situations, he said.
Salahuddin also urged the officers to exercise the highest level of caution and judgement while enforcing the law. They must protect the image of the police force and never misuse their authority, he added.
Home Ministry Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury chaired the meeting.
Acting Inspector General of Police and Additional IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain and Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud spoke as special guests.
Home Ministry Deputy Chief Information Officer Faisal Hasan said 80 candidates for the police cadre and 25 for the Ansar cadre were recommended through the 45th BCS examination.
Following a notification from the Public Administration Ministry, 65 police cadre officers and 19 Ansar cadre officers joined the Home Ministry on Sunday morning, he said.
The briefing and introductory meeting was arranged to provide the newly-recruited officers with guidelines on their professional responsibilities.
