US citizen arrested for running kush lab in Dhaka

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has arrested an American citizen accused of operating a sophisticated kush cultivation lab at his residence in Wari, Dhaka, while staying in the United States.
The arrestee was identified as Tousif Hasan, 22.
He was arrested during a raid at his residence on Rankin Street in Wari between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM on Sunday, November 1, according to the DNC's Dhaka divisional intelligence office.
Authorities discovered the lab during an investigation into an alleged attempt to smuggle yaba tablets to the United States through an international courier service in January.
During the earlier raid, law enforcement officials seized kush seeds brought from California, cultivated kush plants, freshly harvested kush, cultivation equipment, shisha-smoking accessories and foreign liquor. Evidence of kush cultivation was also found in a temperature-controlled room on the rooftop, constructed using tin sheets and aluminium foil.
Investigators said, Tousif learned kush cultivation techniques while living in California and later established a specialised lab at his home in Bangladesh. He allegedly monitored the lab remotely and controlled its temperature from abroad using remote-control technology. A female friend reportedly assisted him.
Investigators also found that 32 yaba tablets had allegedly been sent to the United States through an international courier service using a false identity. The tablets were recovered during a DNC operation.
Tousif's female friend and the caretaker of his residence were previously arrested in connection with the case, which was filed with Tongi West Police Station. Tousif was named as a fugitive accused.
During preliminary questioning, he reportedly admitted to supplying yaba and kush to drug dealers in different parts of Dhaka. Investigations are ongoing to identify his sources of drugs and other links to drug trafficking.
A separate case has been filed against Tousif under the Narcotics Control Act 2018 over the alleged possession of seized yaba and cannabis at Wari Police Station. Authorities are also taking steps to formally arreshim in the earlier kush lab case and seek remand for further questioning.
