Workers of several factories in Gazipur blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway for the second consecutive day on Monday, demanding the same demand of a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.
The workers took position on the highway in the Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakair upazila around 8:30AM, halting traffic on the busy road.
Local eyewitnesses said a group of workers from several factories initially gathered on the highway in the morning, with thousands later joining the protest, disrupting vehicular movement along the stretch.
Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent Mohammad Amzad Hossain said thousands of workers had occupied the highway since 8:30AM.
Industrial police and other law enforcement agencies were working to bring the situation under control and restore normal traffic.
