Authorities of some factories in Savar's Ashulia have declared holidays amid unrest over workers' demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.

The workers staged a protest in Narsinghapur around 9:30 AM on Monday.

It is reported that, earlier in the morning, workers at all garment factories in the industrial zone had arrived for work as usual. However, employees at a factory named 'New Age' in the Nishchintapur area began a work stoppage, remaining inside the factory premises.

Around 9:30AM, the protesting workers from the New Age factory emerged and demanded a minimum wage of Tk 30,000. As they moved on to protest in front of other factories, the management of the Ananta, Trouser Line, Honroll, and Al-Muslim factories declared a general holiday.

When the protesting workers later attempted to demonstrate in front of the Hamim Group facility, police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.

Meanwhile, the Industrial Police have stated that additional police personnel have been deployed across the industrial zone to prevent any untoward incidents.
