Protesting readymade garment (RMG) workers blockaded the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road on Monday (November 2) demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000 alongside other benefits.
Workers from several garment units in the Kutubail area of Fatullah began demonstrating early in the morning, forcing a complete halt to vehicular traffic along the major regional arterial road.
Witnesses reported that around 11:00 AM, employees from Metro Garments and neighboring manufacturing units in the Kutubail industrial cluster ceased work, exited their factories, and assembled on the streets. They subsequently formed a large procession that moved toward the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road, blockading key intersections.
Severe Traffic Disruptions and Police Response
By 12:00 PM, the blockade stretched up to the Signboard area along the Link Road. Groups of workers stationed themselves at multiple strategic points along the corridor, turning back vehicles and stranding commuters, which caused widespread public distress.
Demonstrating workers declared that they would not vacate the thoroughfare until their wage demands were formally accepted by authorities and factory owners.
Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Alam stated that law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately and are actively negotiating with the protesting workers to persuade them to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow.
