Man drowns while crossing river in Rangamati

A 22-year-old physically disabled man drowned while crossing the Raikhyang River in Uluchhari village of Farua Union under Bilaichhari upazila in Rangamati on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sujan Tanchangya.

The incident occurred around 4:30pm on 1 November. His body was recovered from the river around 5:30pm the same day.

According to local sources, Sujan had left home to attend a Kathin Chibar Dan ceremony at Uluchhari Saddharmaratna Buddhist Monastery. While crossing the river on his way to the event, he went under water as he could not swim.

When he did not return home for a long time, family members began searching for him. They later recovered his body from the river.

Sujan's father, Fazal Tanchangya, informed Bilaichhari Police Station about the death and submitted an application seeking the handover of the body without an autopsy.
