The Cabinet has given final approval to draft laws to turn two existing ordinances on special solar power projects and public procurement into legislation.
The approval was given at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Monday (November 2), Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani told a press briefing after the meeting.
The Cabinet approved the draft Special Solar Power Installation Act, 2026, and the Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Act, 2026, subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.
Nasimul Gani said the Special Solar Power Ordinance, 2026, had earlier been issued to accelerate the expansion of special solar power projects. Under Article 93 of the Constitution, the ordinance must be placed before Parliament to be enacted into law.
The draft legislation will now be placed before Parliament as a bill.
The Public Procurement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, was issued on September 21 to ensure transparency, accountability, equal treatment and open competition in government procurement.
The Cabinet Secretary said the proposed amendments include measures to protect domestic industries, support new and small entrepreneurs, and provide special provisions for women and disadvantaged bidders.
The amendments also seek to modernise the open tendering system and introduce alternative procurement arrangements to meet urgent government needs.
