Education authorities are planning disciplinary action against 293 institutions where no student passed this year's HSC and equivalent examinations.

The measures include show-cause notices, cancellation of teaching recognition and suspension of MPO facilities. Institution heads and teachers will also face accountability after a review of their performance over the past five years.

The Dhaka Education Board has decided to issue show-cause notices to 25 institutions under its jurisdiction.

According to board data, 181 institutions under nine general education boards, 55 under the Madrasa Education Board and 57 under the Technical Education Board recorded zero passes this year.

Dinajpur had the highest number of zero-pass institutions at 49, followed by Rajshahi with 39.

Inter-Education Board President Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman said institutions recording zero passes once in five years would receive show-cause notices. Repeated failures could lead to cancellation of teaching recognition and suspension of MPO facilities.

The overall HSC pass rate this year was 52.12 per cent, the lowest in 22 years. A total of 40,084 students secured GPA-5.
