Police recovered the floating body of an unidentified woman from the Madhumati River in Magura’s Mohammadpur upazila on Tuesday morning.
Locals spotted the body floating in the river near Kashipur-Shirgram under Digha Union around 10:30 AM. It later got stuck near the riverbank, prompting locals to inform the police.
On information, police from Mohammadpur Police Station went to the spot and recovered the body. It was later sent to the morgue of Magura 250-bed Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) M Shamim Ahmed confirmed the recovery, saying the woman’s identity and cause of death could not be determined immediately. A tulsi necklace found around her neck initially led police to suspect that she might belong to the Hindu community.
The OC said the actual cause of death would be known after receiving the autopsy report.
