Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman, aged around 60, from a paddy field in the Chapatal area along the border in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah on Tuesday afternoon.

The body was recovered at around 3:30PM on Tuesday (November 3), after locals spotted it lying in a paddy field in the Bilermath area at around 1:30PM and informed Maheshpur Police Station and the Kusumpur Border Outpost (BOP) under Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-58.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) of Jhenaidah Sheikh Billal Hossain confirmed the recovery, saying police found no visible injury marks on the body during the initial examination.

He said the body was being sent to Jhenaidah 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police are investigating the incident and trying to establish the woman's identity. The actual cause of death will be determined after the investigation and autopsy report.

Assistant Director of BGB Battalion-58 Munsi Imdadur Rahman said BGB members also visited the spot after receiving the information. However, as the body was found around two kilometres inside Bangladeshi territory from the border, Maheshpur Police are handling the legal procedures.
