Dengue, measles claim 12 more lives in 24 hrs

Six more people died of dengue and another six with measles symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, while 2,010 new dengue patients and 1,318 suspected measles cases were reported during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in separate regular bulletins on Tuesday (November 3).

Dengue situation

According to the bulletin, the total number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals for treatment this year has reached 140,909.

Of the newly hospitalised patients, 943 were from Dhaka division, 219 from Barishal, 245 from Chattogram, 235 from Khulna, 60 from Mymensingh, 219 from Rajshahi, 24 from Sylhet and 65 from Rangpur.

So far this year, a total of 134,594 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Currently, 5,876 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

Measles outbreak

According to the bulletin, the total number of suspected measles cases since March 15 has reached 232,823, while deaths from suspected measles have risen to 1,158. Meanwhile, 105 people have died from confirmed measles during the period.

Dhaka division reported the highest number of suspected cases, with 546 people identified with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours. Five of the six deaths were reported in the division, while the remaining death occurred in Mymensingh division.

During the same period, 1,318 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, while 1,204 recovered and were discharged.

Since March 15, a total of 198,750 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, the DGHS bulletin added.
