A 72-year-old man was killed after being run over by an autorickshaw following a collision between two such vehicles in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday (November 3).

The accident occurred around 12 noon in front of a community clinic in the Teliakata area under Pekua Sadar Union.

The deceased was identified as Jamal Hossain, a resident of the Choirbhanga area under the same union.

According to his family, Jamal was heading to Pekua Bazar from home in an auto-rickshaw, locally known as a mishuk. When the vehicle reached the community clinic in Teliakata, it collided with another auto-rickshaw coming from the Teliakata road.

Jamal was thrown onto the road by the impact. Another autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction then ran over his waist, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took him to Pekua Upazila Health Complex, where he died while undergoing treatment.
