Students of Udayan Higher Secondary School staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding action over allegations that a Class IX student sexually harassed female classmates, created obscene images and videos using artificial intelligence (AI), and made inappropriate advances towards them.
The protest began on Tuesday morning (November 3), with students demanding punishment for the accused and a safe, harassment-free school environment.
The protesters alleged that the school authorities barred 10 to 12 students from attending classes for raising the issue and tried to suppress the allegations. They also claimed that pressure was being exerted on them because of the accused student's family connections.
The accused is the son of Dhaka University Faculty of Science Acting Dean Professor Dr Md Mofazzal Hossain.
However, the professor denied the allegations against his son, claiming that several students had beaten him on October 7 in the Palashi and Azimpur areas. He said he filed a written complaint with the school authorities the following day and later lodged a general diary with Shahbagh Police Station on October 30 over allegations circulated on social media.
He also said the school had formed an investigation committee and that his son was currently not attending classes regularly due to security concerns.
Udayan Acting Principal Muhammad Arif Rahman's comment could not be obtained despite repeated attempts.
DU Proctor Professor Md Israfil Prang said the matter fell under the school's jurisdiction, but the university had sent its proctorial team to prevent any escalation. He said the situation was now normal.
