In a letter, the International Crimes Tribunal's Chief Prosecutor's Office has ordered seizure of all movable and immovable properties belonging to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal following their conviction for crimes against humanity committed during the July Uprising.
The Office of the Chief Prosecutor has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeking implementation of the tribunal's order to confiscate their properties. Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam disclosed the development while speaking to journalists at his office on Tuesday.
“We urged the ministry to take immediate steps to implement the tribunal's confiscation order,” Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said.
According to the letter, signed by the chief prosecutor, International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced Hasina and Asaduzzaman to death on November 17, 2025, in a case involving crimes against humanity and ordered the confiscation of all their properties.
The tribunal also directed that the confiscated assets be distributed as compensation among the families of those killed during the July Uprising and other victims.
The verdict specifically instructed the home ministry to take the necessary steps to enforce the confiscation order, the letter said.
The ICT Chief Prosecutor’s Office warned that unless the properties were immediately brought under government control, the two fugitive convicts could use, sell or transfer their assets, potentially undermining the implementation of the tribunal’s verdict.
It urged the ministry to prepare a comprehensive inventory of all movable and immovable assets belonging to Hasina and Asaduzzaman, place them under state control and take necessary steps to distribute them as compensation to the families of those killed in the July uprising and other victims, in accordance with the tribunal’s order.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal, the home minister's private secretary and the law minister's private secretary.
