The government has replaced the chairman of the newly reconstituted minimum wage board for garment workers, appointing Judge Syed Azad Subhani in place of retired Justice Sheikh Ashfaqueur Rahman just three days after the board was formed.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification announcing the appointment amid ongoing protests by garment workers demanding higher wages.
Meanwhile, the first meeting of the newly formed wage board is scheduled to be held on Wednesday morning to recommend a new minimum wage for workers and employees in the garment sector, according to a press release. The meeting will be chaired by the newly appointed chairman.
On November 1, the government reconstituted the minimum wage board to review wages for workers in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
