More than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed across Mirpur in the capital to maintain law and order amid ongoing garment workers' protests.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Acting) for Crime Prevention (North) Mahidul Islam disclosed the information while inspecting the Mirpur-10 roundabout area on Wednesday afternoon.
He warned that strict legal action was being taken against those engaging in violence in the name of protests, attempting to destabilise the country, create public suffering, block roads, vandalise vehicles and damage state property.
He said a large number of police personnel had been deployed at different locations across Mirpur, including Mirpur-1, various areas of Pallabi, Rupnagar, Mirpur-12 and Kafrul Road.
More than 10,000 police personnel are currently on duty across the area, he added.
