Man sentenced to life for wife’s gruesome murder

A court in Akkelpur, Joypurhat, has sentenced a man named Sirajul Islam Sheikh Lalu to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife. Additionally, he has been fined Tk. 20,000, with a provision for an extra year of imprisonment in the event of non-payment.

The verdict was delivered on Wednesday afternoon by Judge Hasibul Haque of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 in Joypurhat.

The convict, Sirajul Islam Sheikh Lalu, is the son of the late Abdus Sattar Sheikh from Gudumba village in Akkelpur Upazila.

According to case details, Sirajul Islam Sheikh Lalu married Panna Bibi, daughter of Anwar Hossain from Ghoradah Madhyapara village in Adamdighi Upazila, Bogura, in 2010. The couple frequently quarreled, partly due to the fact that they had no children. On the night of March 7, 2023, following a domestic dispute, Sirajul murdered his wife by strangling her with a rope and slitting her throat.

Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue. The victim's father filed a case at the Akkelpur Police Station the following day. The court handed down this verdict following the conclusion of the trial.

This information was confirmed by Advocate Shahanur Rahman Shahin, a Public Prosecutor at the court.
