A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against actress Porimoni for failing to appear in a case filed by businessman Nasir U Ahmed.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday after cancelling her bail.

According to court sources, the case was scheduled for witness testimony. The plaintiff's side sought cancellation of the bail of the accused, while Porimoni's lawyer sought an adjournment, stating that she could not attend court due to an allergy-related illness.

The court granted the plaintiff's application and ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against Porimoni.

Earlier, on January 26 last year, the court framed charges in the case and ordered the trial to begin. An arrest warrant was also issued against Porimoni on that occasion. She later surrendered to the court and secured bail.

In 2024, the case's investigating officer, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Dhaka district inspector Md Monir Hossain, submitted a report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka, stating that allegations of assault and intimidation against Porimoni and her costume designer, Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim, had been substantiated. The report, however, found no evidence against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Bony.

The judicial magistrate court subsequently accepted the investigation report and issued summons for Porimoni and Jim. They appeared before the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka on June 25, 2024, and secured bail.

Businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud, former president of the Boat Club, filed the case against Porimoni and two others on July 6, 2021, before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan in Dhaka.

The other two accused are Porimoni's associate Fatema Tuz Jannat Bony and Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim.

In his complaint, Nasir alleged that Porimoni and her associates entered the Boat Club in Savar after midnight on June 9, 2021, and later consumed alcohol there. He alleged that they demanded a bottle of Blue Label whisky without payment and that an argument broke out when he refused.

According to the complaint, Porimoni threw a serving glass and a mobile phone at Nasir during the altercation, injuring him in the head and chest. He also accused the defendants of assaulting and threatening to kill him and vandalising the club.

Nasir further alleged that Porimoni later filed a case at Savar Police Station against him and another person, accusing them of attempted rape and attempted murder, in an effort to suppress the incident.
