BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has remembered former Dhaka mayor and party vice-chairman Sadek Hossain Khoka as a true street fighter, recalling their long personal and political journey.
“Khoka was a true fighter on the streets. He smiled little, but his words and sincerity easily drew people close. He was a simple-hearted man with a big heart,” Abbas said.
He made the remarks at a prayer gathering and memorial meeting marking Khoka's seventh death anniversary at the Sadek Hossain Khoka Community Centre in Gopibagh, Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon.
Recalling their childhood, Liberation War experiences and political journey, Abbas said they had stood together for decades despite occasional differences.
He said their shared memories could fill an entire book and expressed regret that Khoka was no longer alive to witness the current political situation.
BNP leaders, including Khoka's son and MP Ishraque Hossain, attended the programme. A special prayer was held seeking eternal peace for the late leader.
