A former Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal leader of Islamic University in Kushtia has filed a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), accusing Jamaat-e-Islami MP Mufti Amir Hamza of hiding information and providing false or incorrect details in his election affidavit.
Sirajul Islam, the complainant, has called for Hamza’s candidacy to be declared invalid and his election cancelled over the alleged irregularities in his financial records. Hamza was elected MP from the Kushtia-3 (Sadar) constituency.
The application was submitted to the Election Commission on Tuesday. It points to several alleged differences between Hamza’s election affidavit, income tax returns, bank accounts, details of movable and immovable assets, and election expenditure records.
