Four workers sustained burn injuries, one critically, after a fire triggered by a gas cylinder leak broke out at a cylinder re-testing facility in the Naujor area of Gazipur Metropolis on Wednesday (November 4) night.
The incident occurred around 8:30PM at the United Cylinder Re-Testing Center-2, adjacent to Riaz Filling Station in Naujor. Fire service personnel dispatched two firefighting units to the scene, bringing the blaze under control.
Senior Station Officer of Bhogra Modern Fire Station Md Hiran Miah stated that fire erupted among 41 gas-filled cylinders at the establishment around 8:40PM. Responding units arrived at 8:44PM, controlling the flames within six minutes before completely extinguishing the fire.
Initial investigations suggest that leaked gas from a filled cylinder triggered the outbreak.
Talha Bin Zasim, a representative from the Fire Service and Civil Defense media cell, confirmed that all four burn victims were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.
The victims have been identified as Abdullah, 18, Ahad, 19, Ashraful, 26, and Nayeem, 25. Medical evaluations confirmed Abdullah suffered 20 per cent burns, Ahad 55 per cent, Ashraful 15 per cent, and Nayeem 4 per cent.
Hospital sources confirmed that Abdullah and Ahad were placed under intensive care in the High Dependency Unit (HDU), with Ahad's condition remaining critical, while Nayeem remains under observation in the emergency department.
