The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a Tk 592 crore project to drill two new wells at the Titas Gas Field, aiming to increase daily gas production by around 30 million cubic feet.
The approval came at the sixth ECNEC meeting of the 2026-27 fiscal year, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Wednesday (November 4).
The two wells, Titas-32 and Titas-33, will be drilled by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL), with completion targeted for September 2029.
Of the total project cost, Tk 414.40 crore will come from government funds and Tk 177.60 crore from the company's own resources.
The wells are expected to produce around 100.74 billion cubic feet of gas and 60,444 barrels of condensate over 10 years.
The government plans to drill 150 wells by 2031 and another 150 between 2031 and 2035 to boost domestic gas production and reduce dependence on LNG imports.
