Public outrage has erupted among parents, teachers, and students in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna after a high school teacher allegedly married an eighth-grade female student from his own institution.

Fellow teachers barred the accused part-time teacher, Mosharraf Hossain Musa, from entering the school premises when he arrived on Wednesday morning (November 4), forcing him to return home.

According to local sources, Mosharraf Hossain Musa, a part-time teacher at Maniknagar Girls' High School, had been in a relationship with the eighth-grade student before secretly marrying her at midnight on October 30.

Despite the marriage, Musa continued attending school as usual. As widespread local criticism mounted, the student was quietly sent back to her parental home from the teacher's residence.

When contacted over the telephone regarding the allegation, Musa denied the marriage before disconnecting the call when pressed further.

Maniknagar Girls' High School Headmaster Anisur Rahman stated that he learned of the matter through word of mouth, though formal disciplinary actions against the teacher have yet to be taken. He assured that necessary steps would follow a formal investigation.

School Managing Committee President Taslim Arif Tushar acknowledged being informed of the incident three days ago, describing it as a disgraceful event that severely damaged the institution's reputation. He explained that official actions were delayed as the headmaster was away in Dhaka on administrative duty, adding that an emergency meeting has been convened to initiate swift proceedings against the teacher.

Ishwardi Upazila Secondary Education Officer Hafizur Rahman stated that the school administration has not formally reported the matter to his office. He emphasized that child marriage constitutes a state crime and noted that marrying a student from one's own institution reflects a grave moral failure on the teacher's part.

He added that instructions will be issued to the managing committee to take legal and administrative action against both the accused teacher and the student's guardians.
