West Indies recovered from a precarious top-order collapse to reach 86 for three at the first day's lunch break after opting to bat first in the opening Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Early bowling spells from Bangladeshi pacers Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud reduced the Caribbean side to 27 for three within the opening hour of play.
However, Kevin Wickham and Amir Jangoo launched a steady counter-offensive, building an unbeaten 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket. At lunch, Wickham was batting on 27, while Jangoo remained undefeated on 32.
Opening bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud exerted continuous pressure from the onset, generating multiple close appeals alongside a missed catch chance.
Taskin provided the initial breakthrough on the first ball of the fifth over, shattering the stumps of Caribbean opener Brandon King with a sharp delivery to dismiss him for nine.
In the following over, Hasan Mahmud struck by bowling Kavem Hodge, who offered no shot to an incoming delivery and was dismissed for a duck, leaving the West Indies at 14 for two.
Joshua Da Silva attempted to anchor the innings before being trapped leg-before-wicket by Taskin for 12, leaving the visiting side reeling at 27 for three before Wickham and Jangoo stabilized the innings heading into the lunch break.
