The overall situation in the industrial belt of Ashulia remains calm and under control, according to the Industrial Police, with only 70 out of 1,863 factories under the jurisdiction of Industrial Police-1 temporarily closed on Thursday (November 5) while production continues normally in the remaining facilities.

Industrial Police-1 Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan briefed journalists around 11:00 AM in the Jamgra area of Ashulia regarding ongoing security operations.

SP Mominul Islam Bhuiyan stated that earlier in the day, miscreants began pelting brickbats following factory closures in several Jamgra pockets. When security forces attempted detentions, perpetrators attacked police personnel and vandalized a patrol vehicle. Law enforcement deployed sound grenades and tear gas shells to restore order.

Describing the current ground situation, he confirmed that normalcy has been restored, noting that a peaceful procession of approximately 2,500 workers marched from Jirabo to the Envoy garment factory to protest a reported worker death in Gazipur.

Regarding arrests and security deployments, the SP noted that comprehensive statistics were still being compiled and no individuals were officially listed in custody at the exact moment of briefing. Five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), equipped with armored personnel carriers (APCs), have been deployed across strategic locations.

Local police and industrial law enforcement are coordinating investigative measures and legal proceedings to handle offenses stemming from the disturbances.

Addressing the workforce, the police official emphasized that garment workers are industrious and eager to resume operations, but outside instigators and saboteurs are leveraging social media to fuel unrest and interfere with production.

He reiterated that the government has already formed a minimum wage board, with finalized pay structures scheduled to take effect from early January, and assured that factory owners remain committed to implementing the ratified wages. Law enforcement officials urged workers to return to their workstations to restore a festive and productive industrial environment.

Authorities are actively tracking down online agitators and social media accounts orchestrating the unrest. While several suspects have been apprehended and are providing critical intelligence during interrogations, their identities remain confidential for ongoing investigative purposes.

SP Mominul Islam Bhuiyan added that outsiders and agitators are exploiting workers as fronts while operating from behind the scenes, though law enforcement has yet to confirm active political shelter behind these external instigators who actively monitor and broadcast police movements and localized clashes online.
