Pacer Hasan Mahmud delivered a stellar bowling performance on the second morning of the Sylhet Test, claiming five wickets to restrict West Indies, though lower-order resilience pushed the visitors past the 300-run mark.
Resuming their overnight score of 235 for 4, West Indies added 87 runs in 25 overs during the first session while losing four wickets, reaching 322 for 8 at the lunch break after 95 overs.
Hasan struck early in the day, removing Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase off consecutive deliveries to ignite hopes of a hat-trick. Although he missed out on the hat-trick, he later secured his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket—the most by a Bangladeshi pace bowler and his first in red-ball cricket at home—by having Joshua Bishop stumped by wicketkeeper Litton Das.
All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also made a breakthrough by clean bowling Justin Greaves for 51. However, Bangladesh failed to quickly wrap up the tail, as Shamor Joseph and Jomel Warrican put on an unbroken 21-run ninth-wicket partnership to carry the team past 300. Joseph hit a boundary and a six off Miraz just before the interval, remaining unbeaten on 16 alongside Warrican on 9.
Hasan finished with figures of 5 for 80 from his bowling spell, while Taskin Ahmed claimed 2 for 83 and Miraz picked up 1 wicket. Meanwhile, opening batsman Shadman Islam sustained a left ankle injury during fielding and had to leave the field on a stretcher, presenting an added concern for the Bangladesh team.
