Methamphetamine production labs are currently operating in Dhaka using chemicals imported under the guise of medicine, Member of Parliament Ishraque Hossain disclosed during a seminar on drug control.
Speaking at the event titled "Challenges and Actions in Drug Control" at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Friday (6 November), the Dhaka-6 lawmaker revealed that investigative findings confirmed the existence of local meth labs and identified specific transport services involved in drug distribution.
Ishraque Hossain stated that drug transportation and the operation of trafficking hotspots across the country are impossible without political patronisation and the collusion of corrupt law enforcement personnel.
He explained that narcotics enter through borders and spread nationwide by changing hands across multiple syndicates. While acknowledging that completely eliminating drug demand is difficult, the MP called for strict control over the supply mechanism, dismantling the entire supply chain, and bringing all involved individuals—including political figures—to justice.
