A two-day training workshop on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has begun for 130 grassroots journalists in Chandpur. Journalists working in the district town as well as various upazilas are participating in the programme.
The workshop began at 2:30 PM on Friday, November 6, at the Chandpur Press Club auditorium. It was organised by Daffodil International University in collaboration with the Chandpur Press Club.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration following lunch, Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Ziaur Rahman said news must be reported and published with a clear understanding of its importance. Journalists must remain aware of their responsibilities and perform their duties with a strong sense of accountability.
"I regularly read the daily newspapers published from Chandpur. I often notice that many reports are exactly the same. In this regard, every newspaper should maintain its own identity and editorial uniqueness," he said.
The Deputy Commissioner further urged journalists not to forget their social responsibilities. He said journalists should also practise the values and awareness they seek to promote through their reporting.
Describing the training as timely and valuable for participants' professional development, he also urged journalists to give greater attention to cultural news alongside other important local developments in Chandpur.
The inaugural session was chaired by Chandpur Press Club President Sohel Rushedy and conducted by its General Secretary MA Latif.
Special guests included Jamimul Hikma, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Chandpur Sadar.
Among the trainers who addressed the programme were international expert trainer Professor Dr Greg Simons and Dr Md Abdul Kabil Khan, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Daffodil International University and an associate professor.
Anwar Habib Kajal, Public Relations Officer of the university, also spoke about the importance of the training programme.
Meherabul Haque and Tanvir Ahmed, lecturers at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Daffodil International University, were also present.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. At the outset, the guests were welcomed with floral greetings and presented with crests of honour on behalf of the Chandpur Press Club.
Following the inaugural session, an interactive training session was held, featuring open questions and detailed discussions on various aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for journalism.
