Joint security forces have launched a fresh drive against human trafficking syndicates hiding deep inside the hills of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

The operation, led by the 10 Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army alongside BGB and police personnel, commenced around 7:30 AM on Saturday (7 November) in the remote hilly terrain of Leda-Rongikhali under Hnila union. Over 150 members of the joint forces are participating in the raid.

Drive follows rescue of 57 victims and death of army soldier

The fresh operation comes after a joint drive on Thursday (5 November) afternoon led to the rescue of 57 trafficking victims and the arrest of five syndicate members from a torture cell in the same area.

During the previous operation, Army Soldier Mohammad Titas Sheikh (27) was killed in a gunfight with human traffickers. He was buried with full state honors at his native village in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, on Friday evening.

The rescued victims—comprising 51 Bangladeshi nationals and six Rohingya refugees—were handed over to their respective families at Teknaf Model Police Station on Friday. Victims recounted being lured with job promises before being held captive by armed guards in the hills while awaiting illegal transport by sea.

Police investigate reports of bodies near hill torture cell

Addressing reports of three bodies allegedly spotted near the mountain hideout by an escaped victim, Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police A N M Sajedur Rahman stated that law enforcement agencies are currently verifying the information and working to locate the reported site.

The Police Superintendent emphasized that joint operations will continue until human trafficking networks in the region are completely dismantled.
