Towhid Hridoy waged a lone battle in Bangladesh's first innings of the Sylhet Test against the West Indies, registering his maiden Test century despite a lack of support from the opposite end.
Playing in only his third Test match, the young batter completed his maiden fifty off 109 balls before accelerating to reach his hundred in 171 balls, decorated with 11 boundaries and a six. His fighting knock carried Bangladesh past the 200-run mark, reaching 205 for 7, while still trailing the West Indies' first-innings total by 152 runs.
Resuming the day alongside overnight partner Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh pinned their hopes on the pair to rebuild the innings. However, Mushfiqur fell for 34, followed by brief stays from Litton Kumar Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who departed after scoring 8 and 16 runs respectively.
With opening batter Shadman Islam ruled out of the match due to injury, Bangladesh entered the Test effectively short of one recognized batter. As the remaining lineup offered minimal resistance, Hridoy stood firm as the sole established batter at the crease, though surmounting the West Indies' first-innings total of 356 runs remains a formidable task for the hosts.
