Nishikant Dubey, a Member of Parliament from India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has claimed that the time has come to "reclaim" Noakhali, Sylhet, and the Chittagong port from Bangladesh, in addition to Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Speaking to Indian news agency ANI on Friday (November 6), Dubey blamed India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, claiming that these regions were relinquished to East Pakistan in 1946 to secure the support of the Muslim League for an interim government. He alleged that these areas originally formed part of the princely state of Tripura.

"In my view, the time has come not only to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir from Pakistan, but also to reclaim the territories that Nehruji forcibly handed over to Pakistan—be it Noakhali, Chittagong port, or Sylhet," Dubey said.

Dubey claimed that the then Maharaja of Tripura, Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, had strongly opposed the decision of the interim government regarding the future of Noakhali, Sylhet, and Chittagong.

Supporting the BJP MP’s statement, Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, head of the Tipra Motha Party and a descendant of Tripura's royal family, stated that a significant portion of the former Tripura state was handed over to East Pakistan during Partition without the consent of the royal house.

Debbarma blamed the allocation of Chittagong port to East Pakistan for leaving India’s northeastern states landlocked, noting that direct sea access would have reduced strategic reliance on the Siliguri Corridor.
