The district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Chuadanga boycotted an official discussion meeting organized by the local administration to mark the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day, following the omission of martyred President Ziaur Rahman's portrait from the event banner.
The protest took place on Saturday (7 November) afternoon in front of the DC Literary Stage adjacent to the Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner's office, led by leaders from the district branches of the BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal.
BNP cites multiple grievances including pro-fascist presentation and scheduling clashes
BNP Organizing Secretary Pitu stated that the absence of Ziaur Rahman's photograph on the banner of a program commemorating National Revolution and Solidarity Day was completely unacceptable.
Party leaders also raised several other objections, including the involvement of individuals associated with the previous regime as event presenters, an alleged attempt to disproportionately highlight Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the deliberate scheduling of a parallel administration program that clashed with the district BNP's pre-scheduled discussion meeting.
DC expresses sincere regret for oversight
Responding to the backlash during the event, Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Lutfun Nahar addressed the stage and offered a sincere apology, admitting that Ziaur Rahman's portrait should have been included on the banner and that the oversight should have been monitored more carefully.
