He made the remarks at a discussion organised at the Sirajganj District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Saturday (November 7), marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Tuku said Ziaur Rahman had laid the foundation of Bangladesh and played a leading role in the country's Liberation War.
He also noted that Bangladesh's representatives had chaired the UN General Assembly during both Ziaur Rahman's and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's governments.
