The Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, observed National Revolution and Solidarity Day on Saturday (November 7), marking the occasion with the hoisting of the national flag and a discussion meeting.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Md Delwar Hossain hoisted the national flag on the embassy premises to the national anthem.
At a discussion meeting held at the embassy auditorium, the ambassador greeted Bangladeshis on the occasion and paid tribute to those who participated in the November 7, 1975 uprising.
He also paid respect to participants in the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 mass uprising and the 2024 uprising, while praying for the eternal peace of those who lost their lives.
In his speech, Delwar Hossain said the political changes following August 15, 1975, failed to bring stability to the country, leaving the nation in a state of uncertainty.
He said the November 7 uprising brought relief to the people, while Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman restored stability in law and order, brought about an agricultural revolution and launched the canal excavation programme.
Highlighting the historical significance of the solidarity between soldiers and civilians, the ambassador said people had united during critical moments in the nation's history.
He observed that the 2024 uprising took place because successive governments had failed to fulfil people's expectations. He expressed hope that those leading the country after the 2024 uprising would act responsibly and meet public aspirations.
Describing expatriate Bangladeshis as hardworking and industrious, Delwar Hossain said their potential could be properly utilised to help Bangladesh achieve developing-country status rapidly.
He called on expatriates to play a greater role in national development and urged everyone to contribute collectively from their respective positions to take the country towards prosperity.
Messages from the President and the Prime Minister were also read out on the occasion.
The programme was conducted by Md Rezaul Islam, counsellor and head of chancery at the embassy.
Representatives of the Bangladesh community in Riyadh, including Dr Golam Hasnain Sohan, Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury, Hamidul Haque Shamim and Biplob Hossain Azad, also spoke at the meeting.
Embassy officials and employees, along with expatriate Bangladeshis living in Riyadh, attended the event.
The programme concluded with special prayers for the welfare and prosperity of the country and its people.
